Looking back, it’s clearly the most pivotal moment of my life as a human being, and as a musician. After that day, everything changed.
When I was 26, fresh out of grad school, enjoying my 1st full time music job playing violin in a symphony, I came home from a rehearsal and played Mahler’s 1st symphony through my CD player.
I had been practicing the Tai Chi Gung exercises daily almost a year. (www.circleofchi.com/david)
All of a sudden, a bolt of spiritual light entered my crown and shot through my body. I felt every cell come alive. Most notably, I felt the music I was listening to resonate in every part of me. I felt the phrases course through from my feet to my head, I felt the brass section exploding from my solar plex, I felt the strings pulse through my heart. This went on continuously for more than 25 minutes.
It’s as if the soul chill that comes from hearing inspiring music had magnified 10 fold and enveloped my entire being.
From that day, playing soul inspiring music became a gate way drug to heaven’s door. I began to pursue every way I could imagine to have that experience again and again.
It led to the improvising style of music that shapes every piece on this website.
It was brought about by the grace of my Tai Chi Gung master, Master Lama Rasaji. There is no doubt about this. With many decades walked together, I know we were together before. I feel honored and at times scared to consider the implications.
We are not always just the sum of our experiences in this incarnation. But that is another story…
